Season 1, preseason. A new edition comes out once every game of a week has finished playing out. How the rankings work
The Cyclones begin the year near the top for good reason. That puts them at 1 before kickoff.
The Wasps start as a contender. That puts them at 2 before kickoff.
On paper, the Pioneers are as good as anyone. Preseason rank: 3.
The Thoroughbreds have the talent to make a long run. Preseason rank: 4.
The Stormriders open the year as a team to watch. Fast, loud, and at their best when the weather turns.
The Monarchs look like a playoff hopeful. An old-money club that expects to win the division.
The Anchors start somewhere in the pack. They open at number 7.
There is upside in Seattle, and plenty of questions. That puts them at 8 before kickoff.
The Prospectors start somewhere in the pack. Patient diggers who strike it rich on one big play.
The Blackbirds need a fast start to prove they belong higher. That puts them at 10 before kickoff.
The middle of the league is home for the Riveters to start. Their starting spot: 11.
The Martens need a fast start to prove they belong higher. They begin at 12.
The Rustlers open as underdogs most weeks. Their starting spot: 13.
The Gryphons have the most to prove. Their starting spot: 14.
The Ironclads have the most to prove. A front line plated in iron, built to take the hit and give one back.
The Watchmen start near the bottom of the board. Number 16 to start.
Each team gets a score from 0 to 100. Results count 45 percent win share, 30 percent average margin (a 15-point average margin is the top), 15 percent form over the last three games (the newest counts most), and 10 percent the records of the teams it has played. Before any games, the score is club strength alone; strength fades as games are played (three quarters after one game, half after three). Only games that have finished playing out count, so a week still being played changes nothing here.
